Self Portrait Propaganda

Total time for completion: about 4 hours

The basic idea of my self portrait was to display a happy image of myself by using and combining different shapes and tools in adobe illustrator. The idea that I chose for the propaganda aspect of the project was “stop and smell the roses,” because I think it is important to enjoy life while you are living it. Some tools I had to use for this project include the shape builder tool, which helped me combine shapes to create the look that I wanted, and it also helped me create the shadow on my face. I wanted to include my freckles in the portrait because I feel like they are an important aspect of who I am, and they make me, me.

As far as the propaganda goes, this saying is important to me because I tend to get really caught up in the hard work of life, that I forget to enjoy it. I really tend to forget to just have fun and enjoy life because I am too focused on schoolwork or what I need to do everyday to be successful. The saying “stop and smell the roses,” has always just really spoke to me because we never know when our last day on the earth is. One of the biggest regrets a lot of people on their deathbed have is that they forgot to enjoy their youth enough because they were too hyper-focused on growing up and becoming an adult.

The colors that I decided on were the yellow and dark navy blue because these colors contrast each other so well. I got inspiration from the famous war propaganda poster that says, “We can do it!”. I put the roses in the corners because I liked the symmetry that it gave the propaganda poster. Sometimes it is important to just stop and recognize that we only have one life to live, so we need to stop and just enjoy it.

    1. Thank you Lauren! I wasn't sure if the roses were a good choice or not because I thought they might have made it too busy. Thank you so much for noticing, though! Those took very long to get right, and I had to watch a tutorial for them.
